14 Days Rwenzori Mountains Trekking & Wildlife Tour

  • Trip Overview

    The Rwenzori mountain trekking tour is one the most beautiful trekking tours in Africa. The mountain in the third highest on the African continent with the height of 5109m above sea level and rich in a wide range of biodiversity in the mountain ranges that stretch for 70km long and 30km wide, making it the largest mountain range in Africa. The mountain is blessed with a beautiful rain forest around and is home to a number of unique wildlife such as the three horned chameleons, Ruwenzori turracos, colobus monkeys, white tailed mongoose and much more which you expect encounter while trekking the beautiful mountain.

    On this trip you expect to also visit a couple of other beautiful places such as Queen Elizabeth national park that is home to an amazingly number of wildlife and scenic views, Lake Bunyonyi area which is regarded as one of the adventure spots to visit while on a visit around Uganda and Lake Mburo national park that is famous for its unique wildlife that can’t easily be potted in the other savannah parks in the country

  • Day 1

    Transfer to Kasese and prepare for the trekking on the next day

  • Day 2

    Meet your guides, chef and porters at Nyakalengija base camp for an orientation and after that, the 10km hike starts taking 4-5 hours normal walking to Nyabitaba camp 2651m in the forest zone.

  • Day 3

    Descend to cross the confluence of Mubuku & Bujuku Rivers on Kurt Shafer Bridge to the bamboo forest through Nyamuleju old camp to John Maate camp 3505m in the heather zone. Walking normally for 6-7 hours

  • Day 4

    Drop to cross Bujuku river, the lower and upper Bigo bogs, moving along Bujuku lake to Bujuku camp 3900m walking 3-4 hours and located n the shadow of Mt Baker, Speke and Stanley to the west.

  • Day 5

    Cross the bogs and to the ladders and take the steep trail to your right and an overnight at the coolly and icy Elena hut 4541m, walk normally takes 3-4 hours.

  • Day 6

    Ascend to Stanley glacier, the plateau and Margherita glacier to  Margherita peak 5109m a tough climb of 5-6 hours. Return through Scott Elliot pass 4372m with views of mount Speke and mount Stanley passing through the alpine zone and an overnight at Kitandara camp 4023m  
    between two sister lakes walking 4-5 hours.

  • Day 7

    Ascend steeply up the head wall to fresh field pass 4280m at the point you view Congo to the west and mount Stanley to the north, slope to  Bujongolo rock shelter the base camp used by the duke of Abruzzi in 1906 and Kabamba falls and an overnight at Guy Yeoman Camp 3505m  
    walking 5-6 hours

  • Day 8

    Today we descent outside the national park and drive to Kasese/Queen Elizabeth area for an overnight and relaxation after an interesting hike through the Rwenzori mountains.

  • Day 9

    Early this morning after a cup of tea, you will enjoy a morning game drive so as to catch up with the early risers as they come out from their hide outs like the lion, buffaloes, warthogs and many more. Retire for a late breakfast which will then be followed by a scenic drive through the queen Elizabeth crater lakes as you drive to the Mweya peninsular where you will have a lunch break and then do an amazing launch cruise on the famous Kazinga channel that connects lakes George and Edward which lie on the base of the east African great rift valley.

  • Day 10

    Today we shall drive to lake bunyonyi which is one of the ost beautiful places to visit while on trip in Uganda and a perfect spot for relaxation and lots of adventure activities such as villages walks, canoe trips, boat trips, high ropes climbing, zip lining, swimming among others. We expect to drive through Ishasha which is located south of Queen Elizabeth national park and is famous for the tree climbing lions and much more wildlife such as Topis, Kobs, Elephants, herds of buffalos, hyenas, leopards and a number of different savannah and forest bird species.

  • Day 11

    Expect to wake up on a beautiful day and decide on what you want to do for the day on the beautiful lake commonly known as the lake of small birds and pretty islands. There will be a lot of optional activities to choose such as high ropes climbing, canoe treks, boat trips, village walks or just relax and swim in the fresh waters of the lava dammed lake.

  • Day 12

    After breakfast, we shall drive to Lake Mburo national park with a stopover at Igongo cultural museum rich with ankole cultural. We shall then continue to the lodge reaching early for lunch and plan on doing an evening game drive that will offer great sightings of zebras, elands, giraffes, impalas, waterbucks, warthogs, buffalos among other beautiful wildlife in this unique pretty national park.

  • Day 13

    What is a trip to Uganda without getting to learn about some of the cultures in a country that hosts over 52 different tribes around the different regions doing different livelihood activities such as agriculture and cattle keeping as the main ones. Today we shall wake up ona morning community visit and learn about the life of the **HIMA** people who are part of the semi nomad pastoralists of West Africa that migrated and settled in the eastern central Africa as early as the 2500BC’s. Expect to participate in a few activities and return to the lodge for breakfast and relax as you enjoy the swimming pool or go for a biking trip around the villages or along the park boundaries.

  • Day 14

    With a head full of beautiful memories; we shall drive to Entebbe with a stopover at the equator for souvenir shopping and lunch as we drive on for your return flight back home.
